Every time you post in a forum or send someone an email, you have a prime opportunity to promote your website with zero effort. Don’t set your signature line to be informative (and dull)! It can be a wicked effective marketing tool to encourage visitors to your website.
Guidelines for a good email signature
1. The purpose of the signature is not to make a sale, it’s to get a reader intrigued enough to visit your website. The website makes the sale.
2. The human mind is set up to find unanswered questions irritating. Ask a question and send them to the website to answer it! My signature line at present is:
What’s the #1 reason your small business needs a website?
Find out at http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com
I’m not saying it’s perfect, but it does attract attention. (By the way: if you don’t know the answer to the question, you need to read back through our posts!)
3. Let them know what they’ll get out of it.
You can have the clutter-free home you want. Find out how at http://www.example.com!
4. Be emotional and descriptive. You can pack a lot of punch in a short sentence or two.
Do you read Home & Garden each month and sigh?
5. Use a mini-testimonial:
My car’s been a headache for months, but Julie got it running smoothly in twenty minutes! – Greg S.
6. Be personal:
I’ve spent the last 23 years helping patients with unusual-shaped feet find comfortable footwear. Can I help you?

P.S. If you don’t know how to update your signature for your email client, leave a comment and we’ll help you out.
