Do you want to grow an awesome website?
Hi! I'm a drawing of Catherine. She does most of the writing here, including this blurb. (Does this count as writing in the third person?) Catherine believes that websites don't really run on technology, they run on emotions. If you agree, then she wants to help you rock it out and be awesome online.

How WebSites Work, Part 3: HTML, CSS and frameworks

Now you know about servers and IP addresses and domain names, it’s time to talk about the building blocks of websites: HTML, CSS and more advanced dynamic website tools like WordPress.

The Infamous Whiteboard is back, but I took the filming inside (away from the car noises and cicadas), so it’s much more readable.

Did that help? Please leave comments below to let us know!

Definitely helpful! Did make me wonder about cost (for WordPress), but that's very easy to find out. Also made me wonder about the degree of customizability (is that a word?) WordPress allows for, but then I remembered your earlier post about how our first site won't (and needn't) be perfect, so we just make it cheap and easy, and then I thought – it's probably customizable enough!

WordPress itself is completely free. You will have to pay for some webhosting, which is about $100/year.

It's completely customisable! You can change the look with themes, or add more functionality with plugins… there's almost nithing you can't do.
