Last time I talked about servers and IP addresses, and this time we build on that to include how domain names come into the picture.
I was wrestling with a few problems while shooting this video:
- I’m still really new to this process and it’s still terrifying
- My camera kept turning itself off every 50 seconds
- It was an insane 36 Celcius degrees today!
- It was an insane 96.8 degrees Farenheit today! (That’s for you imperialists. I wish I used Farenheit, it makes high temperatures seem MUCH more impressive.)
So when I realised that the shiny new whiteboard I had purchased to add some visual flair was, tragically, TOO shiny and therefore unreadable, I’d been sweating for 2 hours and didn’t want to play any more.
What the whiteboard says is:
BeAwesomeOnline.com 69.163.206.4
www.BeAwesomeOnline.com 69.163.206.4
mail.BeAwesomeOnline.com 69.123.101.1
mail.BeAwesomeOnline.com 69.123.101.2
These aren’t the actual IP addresses, because I ran out of space and put in slightly shorter ones.
In one of the sections that got lost by my camera’s psychosis, I explained the mail records. These are the records for the email servers that deliver your email; any reputable email provider has at least two in case one is unavailable.
So, I hope that was useful to you! Please leave a comment below if it did, or if you need anything clarified further. Or if you want to complain about the weather.
