I have a Thing about being left out. Long-time readers know this, because I have fucked up a few times because of it. As an increasingly awesome (and emotionally mature) adult, I’ve gotten better at managing this Thing until it doesn’t cause me to do stupid stuff in public.
But I still want to be included. I still yearn to be included.
One of my first logging-in-this-morning activities hit that button hard. Naomi from Ittybiz is one of my shining inspirations – her products and information have been big milestones (signposts? Metaphor fail. No they’ve been milestones AND signposts: they both pointed the way and got me taking momentous action) on my journey to rockin’ self-employment. And so when her link sent me to a totally kick-ass event she and Johnny and Lee are hosting the day before BlogWorld, which I already really wanted to go to…
…oh MAN did I want to be there. So idly, as you do, I wandered over to the airline ticket websites. Just to check, you understand. Just out of curiosity. And when I saw that the plane tickets were only $625 each way…
It wouldn’t hurt to do all the math, I thought. Hmm… early-order BlogWorld tickets just under $900 (ouch), plus $200 for the QTR event, it’s… just under $250 to get my passport – yes, I don’t have a passport, I’ve never travelled despite wanting to, it’s tragic – and somewhere under $100/night for the hotel, depending on where I stay, don’t need a visa…
My total? About $3500. Let’s say $4000, assuming I’ve missed a number of things.
That’s… a pretty small number. That’s actually doable, maybe.
Probably.
Hell, why not?
My magnificent plan I just made up
The early-order discount for BlogWorld tickets ends at midnight on the 16th of September. If I’ve made $4,000 by then I’ll book it. If I’ve made $5,000 by then, I’ll add a week to the plane tickets and go visiting some of my North American peeps.
I’ve been making plans to re-organise my consulting offerings now that I’m getting an idea of what you need. Screw planning, it’s time for ACTION! So today I will be adding, editing and removing sales pages like no-one’s business. The expanded offerings will include:
- broadening my brainstorming services to include domain names, products and services as well as taglines
- adding regular one-on-one sessions for people who need support, accountability and someone to tell them they’re on the right track

How you can help
If you’ve been thinking of adding increased awesomeness to your website through consulting, learning how to wrangle your website fears, or gaining wisdom from the most comprehensive how-to-start-an-awesome-website resource of all time, now’s the time to buy.
If you want a taste of how utterly fantastic working with me is (and it really is, there are hundreds of nice people who will tell you), the next Awesome Chat is on in just a few days. For $25/month you get access to two calls with me and a half-dozen other wonderful, insightful darlings. There’s more inspiration in one call than you could carry in a bucket.
If you know someone who has been wanting to start a website for ages, call them up and say, “Steve, there’s this really great resource that will help”. (This only works if they’re called Steve. Feel free to adjust as required.)
And please spread the word about this website to the delightful weirdos you know that need it.
Oh, and for the people who I KNOW will ask, here’s a donation button:
The special super nifty bonus
If you help me do this, I owe you. I will happily do an hour-long interview for your website, tell everyone about how nifty you are, or send you naked photos. Of myself, even. I’ll give you special insider updates of all the fantastic stuff that happens on my first-ever overseas trip. And because I rarely drink alcohol, I’ll be the sober one at the party, with all the bestest gossip.
And I’ll do a special ask-me-anything Q&A session next week for the people who bought stuff, referred people who bought stuff, or told all their friends.
That’s you, right? Tell me in the comments!
[Edited to add: OMG there are now prizes for donating, since even more people than I thought are insane. You realise you could just buy things, right? More info about the prizes tomorrow! Let me just say that they are ACE.]
Special offers!
Jordan of NotAProBlog.com has offered consulting for you on how to get noticed in your niche, write clickable tweets and attractive articles: 30 minutes for $50 and 1 hour for $75, with all proceeds going into my BlogWorld fund. (Email me or leave a comment if you’re interested. A personalised session from a stand-up comedian on how to get attention? It sounds utterly fantastic: I’d take him up on the offer if it wasn’t weird to do so.)
Heather from The Mogul Mom has generously offered to pay me the proceeds from anyone who buys Get Famous Fast with the code “BEAWESOME”.
Andy Dolph has used this week as a clever excuse to launch his intriguing new product: using unconscious beat rhythms and spoken word, customised to you, to help change one of your unconscious beliefs. Forever. Science and mysticism combine to make a super-cool product! And this week, all the proceeds go to the fund. Check it out.
Jade and I made a fantastic and relevant product in one weekend: Awesome non-icky conference networking. Jade’s already being flown out to BlogWorld for her stunning awesomeness at connecting with the right people, so her share of the proceeds is paying for our fake wedding and icecreams. (Don’t ask.)
Shawn is very kindly offering logo design for only $250 and e-book covers for $150, with proceeds into the fund. (That’s such a sweet deal he can only offer three. Run!)
And the ever-beautiful Danielle of White Hot Truth has offered one copy of her totally fantastic Firestarter Sessions with proceeds to the fund. Go, buy it and let me know.
Prizes for donating!
Kirsty, my favourite obsessive artist, offered two consulting sessions and three secret art envelopes.
Then super-spiffy Holly volunteered two half-hour copywriting sessions.
And LaVonne added two voice-coaching sessions.
Not to be outdone, Birdy added an Encouraging Diploma Kit, a tarot story and a wrapped crystal.
And from Amy, your own cartoon! Booyah!
Then Andy through in two copies of Journey to the Spirit of Healing.
You guys ROCK ON TOAST. Thank you.
