Hey, have you heard the news?
I have a new website! It's called Cash and Joy and its mission is to increase the awesomeness of the world - of course - through glorious and meaningful marketing.

Why did I focus on marketing? Because marketing can be the most fun and meaningful activity of your business instead of the most dreaded and icky... if you do it right.

Awesome April: time to set some big-ass goals

It’s a new month. Time to set some goals! I’ll go first.

What’s a small accomplishment I could achieve this April? In regards to my finances and my health I could:

  • Earn $100 this month
  • Exercise three times

How much effect would those goals have? A tiny bit, but nothing noticeable. It’s easy. Boring.

Let’s go bigger!

What’s a noticeable accomplishment I could achieve this April? I could:

How much effect would those goals have? Some. It would be a medium-sized step in the right direction. A little challenging. Still boring.

Bigger!

What if I decided to go MEGA? What’s a stunning accomplishment I could achieve this April? I could:

Hoooooooly shit. That’s intimidating. I would have to exercise almost every single day, and not just go for a stroll and decide it counts. I’d have to jog. That would hurt. A lot.

And I would have to make some truly mind-boggling cash. I’d need to develop and sell some premium products. I would have to really up my game.

Could I do it?

Yes.

If.

If I decide.
If I plan my time and spend it well.
If I refuse to accept excuses.
If I refuse to back down.
If I get a bit of luck.
If I put my fear in a headlock.
If I truly commit to being awesome, every waking hour.
If I can stop my heart racing right now.

Hell, I’m going for it. It’s time to Do Epic Shit.

Your five-minute mission, should you choose to accept it…

(This one is definitely a volunteer mission.)

Choose one – or if you’re a wee bit insane, two – goals to accomplish this month. Hard goals. Scary goals. Ones you can only accomplish if you go hardcore, if you do more than you’ve ever done before.

And tell me about it. We can cheer each other on as we jog (argh!) the path to Awesome.

I hate goals. Truly – I even have a book about not setting goals. I don't follow it either. This is my birth month and, in honor of it, I am doing nothing but creating art. That's right – no marketing (geez, I am tired of marketing). However, in the doing of the art there will be more to market. (see? there IS method in the rebellious madness).

The other “goal” that I am going to work on is becoming retired from being a sheep (baaaaaaa!) and point out when people are not accountable for what they claim in their products. I, for one, am tired of investing in products (yes, even a product from one of the “cool kids”) and finding that they are just plain out disappointing, aren't you?

Uh, I am SO not talking about your awesome Website in a Weekend which is the BEST thing I have seen “out there” lately!

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

Thanks for the Website in a Weekend praise. Quite a testimonial!

Let's not call yours goals. How about “kick-ass decisions for your natal month”?

I love them both, especially the decision to hold people accountable. (I have generally been very happy with the products I've bought, but there certainly have been a few that needed some very constructive criticism…)

    What will you be crafting?

  • http://blog.criticalresults.com/ Mark W. Schumann

Big goal for April: Sign up one client for my new Emergency Agile program. Just one.

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

    Where are you advertising it?

That post is wonderful but I don't see where it leads into selling the program, except for where you mention it in the comments.

  • http://blog.criticalresults.com/ Mark W. Schumann

Not officially selling it just yet. Still fixing up the sales page a bit.

Oh heck, you're practically family. http://criticalresults.com/emergency.html. But it's not perfect yet! Panic!

My big goal for April is to blog EVERY DAY. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but it scares me to death. Fortunately, it's still March around here, so I have some time to get used to the idea. Gleep!

Btw, I completely changed my topic from Speaking Clearly to [borrowing Sonia Simone's great blog post title]: The Complete Flake's Guide to Getting Things Done. Hope she doesn't mind. Wouldn't want to offend one of the cool kids. :)

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

Refer to my previous post on perfect vs awesome. :)

That's a great product! Useful, clever, effective and making me crave Indian food. Tell us when you sign someone up so we can cheer!

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

Blogging every day is totally a big deal. It was scary for me when I started doing it this year. But be assured, it gets much, much easier once you find your rhythm.

And I'm sure Sonia won't mind your using her post title. She's very cool about that kind of thing. :)

  • http://bornfamous.com/ LaVonne Ellis

Fortunately, I did blog every day for a year or two back in the dark ages, so I remember how to do it: Morning Pages! Remember them? Write three pages by hand every morning about whatever pops into your head. There was always a blog post in there somewhere.

I don't think Sonia will mind either but just to be polite, I asked.

Well, among several items (including binding a few journals, cutting some silhouettes and making paper) I finished up my first video today – totally non-marketing stuff – but I got a new camera for my birthday (harinezumi 2) and it films really lo techy, retro looking video. So I played around with iMovie and here's the link if you want to view:

Oh, the music: I don't speak French, so if you do and she is singing about killing cats or something tragic – please let me know… lol

Big-Ass goals for April – Goal 1 – Run 2 marathons, one of which needs to be in under 5 hours. This is merely a stepping stone for the epic shit I'm doing at the end of may (comrades, and 89k (56 miles for you non-metric people) Ultra marathon)

Goal 2 – Get 100 subscribers on Fight-Mediocrity. (I have no clue how I'm going to do this, but perhaps, I don't need a clue)

  • http://www.beawesomeonline.com Kevin Powe

Wow. This is Texas big. Sparta big. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

It's a big month for me too, but nowhere near on the scale you've got planned – 3 weeks training delivery, Chris' $100 Business Forum, and coaching via Alexia.

Looking forward to passing the next guest post your way shortly, kiddo!

  • http://twitter.com/CraftingSpirit Crafting Spirit

I went to sign up – uh, no subscriber box! You have to have a subscribe box to reach your goal… email if you need some help. pam [at] pameland.com

I love the fight mediocrity mind set. : )

  • http://twitter.com/CraftingSpirit Crafting Spirit

Well, you know what they say, Kevin – the stars at night, are big and bright…

    Kudos on your big plans!

  • http://fight-mediocrity.com/ Gareth

    I knew I'd overlooked something. ;)

Fight mediocrity was born out of a bad week dealing with dilbertesque office crap. I needed to do something to take the power back. That was the result.

Thanks for the offer. if I get stuck I'll definitely take you up on it.

Nothing big for me this month because I've had a very busy couple of months, so I need some regrouping and resting time. I will be sorting out my garden, making lots of art and hopefully seeing some friends. That said, me being me, I'll probably take on something big quite by accident.

  • http://bornfamous.com/ LaVonne Ellis

Well, the site is bare bones right now, but the first post is up: http://completeflake.com/coming-out-of-the-flak…

It was fun to write, which is nice since I usually find writing to be an ordeal. :) One down, 29 to go!

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

You had a monster March, a rest is a good idea. If something new and interesting blooms, then cool!

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

GREAT start. Honest and self-aware, but not whiny. Useful to other flakes. Genuine and funny.

Not many sites I've seen like that manage that balance! I'll be watching to see where it goes. (Let me know when you want me to share the link on Twitter!)

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

2 marathons? Woah. Colour me intimidated… and impressed.

To get 100 subscribers you need to tell people about the website and ask them to sign up. It's not much more complicated than that!

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

It was your birthday! Happy happy birthday, Pam. Hope it was fantastic.

I love the video. It's so professional (in the good way) and amateur (also in the good way). And my half-forgotten French heard only conversational stuff that did not involve killing kittens in any way. :)

  • http://bornfamous.com/ LaVonne Ellis

That's very generous, thank you! Sonia just gave her enthusiastic seal of approval, so I think I'm onto something here–as long as I don't flake out. That's always a concern, but I don't think so this time. :) Gotta finish post #2 and start on #3!

  • http://fight-mediocrity.com/ Gareth

Intimidation wasn't the intention (otherwise I would have said I've already run 2 marathons this year, and if things go to plan I'll do the 89k next month, then a 50km in September and the Athens Marathon in October. And I may throw another one in there if I see something cool to do)

I'm going to join you in the 100 push-ups challenge (and I'll stick in sit-ups as well).

The 100 subscribers thing worries me. But, I'll push through.

OK. I'm going to finish that ebook I've been working on for, like, a year or more and start really, truly marketing my website. Can't help people if they don't know about it.

(This might not sound like a big goal, but everything that gets done is an accomplishment these days with a seven-month-old in the house!)

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

Those are huge goals. Well done, don't forget to come and tell us how it's going!

  • http://www.mylifecompass.com/jordanmercedes Jordan

Catherine, great post. I made a huge goal this month. To host the Biggest Vision Board Party for women and girls. The goal is to have at least one vision board event happen in each state during mother's day week. It's pretty big and stretching me to work, grow, think, share, engage and more. Thanks for the fuel at the perfect time.

  • http://www.BeAwesomeOnline.com Catherine Caine

    Woah, huge goal! Go Jordan!

That's so inspiring: both as a huge goal and what you're working to do. Awesome.

Come tell us how it went, okay?
